12" Pearlware Early Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Spaniel Dog Figurine

Brand Unknown

Just arrived from England today...this wonderful example of an antique, (circa 1790-1830), Staffordshire dog figurine is perfect for your English country home.   It has a seldom found pearlware glaze giving it a unique, very subtle light / pale blue-gray glaze.

Measures roughly 12" tall

Good condition, no chips or cracks, minor imperfections in glaze and clay

It is not marked on the bottom but that is not unusual for pieces this age

Pearlware is distinct from creamware in having a blue-tinged glaze produced by the use of cobalt and a body somewhat modified to produce a ware that was slightly greyish in appearance. Pearlware was developed in order to meet demand for substitutes for Chinese porcelain amongst the growing middle classes of the time.
