RARE-Commissioned Antique Hand Painted Brown English Transferware Grazing Bunny Rabbits Plate Copeland Spode

$224.99

Brand Spode Copeland

Copeland Spode plate with Filigree border and hand-painted hare center, made for Ovington Brothers (New York), circa 1870–1900

I absolutely love this extremely rare, antique hand painted bunny plate by Copeland Spode!  It is an absolutely wonderful example of pieces imported by affluent, high end retailers specifically for their stores and the American Market.    It reads Made for Ovington Brothers on the back. This refers to Ovington Brothers, a luxury importer and retailer in New York City. They commissioned custom ceramics from English factories and sold them in their shop.

It has an intricate border that looks just like lace.  It is sometimes referred to as the Filigree border.  The plate depicts a bunny leaping over over ferns and foliage.

Measures 8”

Condition: No chips or cracks, some crazing.
