RARE Red Transferware HUGE Canterbury Supper Set with Tureen & 4 Covered Casseroles Strolling Couple Gazebo Geometric Border Landscape

$599.00

Brand Midwinter

One of my favorite patterns is this, Landscape by Midwinter. I am excited to offer this amazing Canterbury set (I have one in my collection as well) which was purchased at the estate sale of an auction at the Averell Harriman estate on Long Island in the 1970's.  William Averell Harriman (November 15, 1891 – July 26, 1986) was an American Democratic Party politician, businessman, and diplomat. He was the son of railroad baron E. H. Harriman. He served as Secretary of Commerce under President Truman and later as the 48th Governor of New York.

I collect this for one of my children for when he is grown, but in a different colorway. It's a very striking pattern with a unique geometric border surrounding a scene with couple strolling through a garden appearing somewhat Italian in nature with the columned buildings and architecture. There's a bridge and gazebo in the background.

This is a supper set, also called Canterbury sets. They are VERY hard to find. It is huge and very impressive.

Overall this measures: 22"-24" round depending on how closely together you put the casseroles. The center tureen is 9" handle to handle x 10" with lid on. Each of the four crescent shaped, covered casserole dishes measure 14" x 8" x 5.5" high with lid on. This is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! You will get the WOW factor when people see it. I know, I have it in red myself and I had a blue one displayed at my physical shop for a couple of weeks and most people commented on how beautiful and impressive it was when they saw it.  It has already sold.  This does not come with the wood circular tray or ladle.

No chips or cracks, there is crazing and some browning / discoloration mostly on the undersides of the casserole dishes.

There is one listed on Ebay right now for $1000 and I know a dealer who has one for $1299. This one is a bargain comparitvely speaking! What a fantastic gift for the transferware collector in your life..or for you! ;-)  It will be an impressive piece to use for the holidays as well!
