Rare Red Transferware Bird Sparrow Shaped Pin Dish Spoon Rest or Ash Tray Charlotte England Basket of Flowers

Brand Royal Staffordshire

As often as I deal in the Charlotte pattern, I seldom am able to find this ashtray shaped like a bird. How cute is this litle Sparrow?

Made in England, the red transfer depicts a basket of flowers on one side and more flowers on the opposite side and inside the tub at each end. It has grooves for draining. SO CUTE! I have lots of other pieces in this pattern listed currently.

Measures: 5 " long x 4.25" wide
Condition is good, however there is a about 1mm sliver off of the wing...doesn't show from the top/front. I tried to get pics (photo 4 and 5) so you can see what I am talking about. This piece was part of my collection and I only noticed this flaw when I went to list it. Perfectly displayable, or useable!

The Sparrow

A LITTLE bird, with plumage brown,
Beside my window flutters down,
A moment chirps its little strain,
Then taps upon my window-pane,
And chirps again, and hops along,
To call my notice to its song;
But I work on, nor heed its lay,
Till, in neglect, it flies away.

So birds of peace and hope and love
Come fluttering earthward from above,
To settle on life's window-sills,
And ease our load of earthly ills;
But we, in traffic's rush and din
Too deep engaged to let them in,
With deadened heart and sense plod on,
Nor know our loss till they are gone.
