Staffordshire Hand Painted Brown Transfer Ware Plate
Royal Cauldon
If you are a collector of transferware, here is a real treat...an 8.5" square shaped antique plate from a rare series of by Royal Cauldon. This plate looks a lot like creamware with an all over impressed/embossed design done with much intricacy and detail. The plate depicts a peaceful lake scene with people strolling a path along the shore banks and another couple seated along the grounds. You can faintly make out a boat on the distant waters. Directly around the scene is a beautiful scrolled detail. The entire scene is then beautifully framed by the embossed sunflower and floral scrolled border that really makes it stand out. STUNNING. The brown transfer scene is hand painted with shades of green, gold, brown, yellow, burgundy and blue.
The plate is in great condition for its age, very fine allover crazing and some allover coloring/slight darkening of the glaze. There are a couple of shallow flakes on the back. Please know that the glaze has only yellowed some and very evenly at that, I believe adding a beautiful patina. There is some minor wear to the paint, as to be expected with time and age.
