For consideration is this very rare, red transfer ware turkey plate by William Ridgway depicting a stunning Turkey at center stage. It features faint hand colored touches of purple, green and  It is bordered with varied botanicals in lacey detail. It is absolutely stunning and a great opportunity to add an exquisite piece to your collection. It is stamped as shown below with a PV in a circle.  PV The PV in a circle is a US importer mark that stands for "Peasant Village", a brand owned by Mittledorfer Straus based in New York. The PV mark turns up on all sorts of European giftware and china items including those from Italy, France and England (where yours was made). Some were even manufactured in the US. "Peasant Village" began trading in the 1920s and continued until the 1970s but were most active in the 1940s & 50s.

Ridgway Potteries Ltd, was founded sometime around 1744. Sometimes called the Grandfather of the Potteries, the Ridgway family can be traced to the earliest days of the Staffordshire potteries, along with such famous names as Wedgwood, Spode and Adams.

Under the managment of one family member, John Ridgway, the Ridgway potters were appointed as Potter to Her Majesty Queen Victoria. This was the highest acclaim for any English pottery firm.

One of the family members, William Ridgway, operated the Bell Works in Shelton and the Church Works in nearby Hanley from 1830-54. The Bell Works Pottery at Bethesda Street has been The Potteries Musuem since 1956 and houses the largest and most important collection of North Staffordshire pottery in the world.

Condition: No chips or cracks, only a small amount of crazing is present. The color is vibrant, the style is elegant and classic.
