#7 in Series of 12 Different Spring Flowers
Morning Glory

This breathtakingly gorgeous plate is one of a set of 12 different plates in the Spring series by George Jones and Sons of the Crescent Potteries of Trent, North Staffordshire, England.
It features a nearly 2" border of soft, Robin's Egg Blue, that is gilded at the outer and inner rim. The face of the plate features a very soft, subtly colored fuschia transfer that has been handpainted within the confines of the actual transfer. This plate features a morning glory and small, fuschia flowers. The series is untitled (I call it Spring) and features 12 different Spring florals, all of which are handpainted. Additionally, each plate in the series is hand signed by the artist, D. Simmin, who was most likely an in house artist solely working for the Crescent Potteries/George Jones & Sons. The signature appears just below or at the bottom of each flower on the face of the plate. The plates are hand numbered on the backs as well.

The company began operation in c.1861-4 at Stoke Upon Trent at the Trent Potteries Works as George Jones and in 1873 became George Jones & Sons Ltd. They produced gorgeous majolica, earthen wares and fine bone china such as this. George Jones dies in 1893 but the pottery remained in business.
In 1907 the works was renamed Crescent Potteries and remained as such until about 1957 when it ceased operations.
