Blue English Ironstone TRANSFER WARE Lidded Tea Caddy w/ Twin Figural Face Handles

Jenny Lind

For consideration is this gorgeous blue Staffordshire transferware lidded box or caddy. The handles are beautifully detailed, figural faces. The pattern is Jenny Lind, named after the famous opera singer, aka The Swedish Nightingale.

The box and lid depict Victorian people looking through a telescope at the castle & mountains in the far distance.

Measures 5.5" handle to handle x 5" tall x just under 4.5" wide

Condition: good, one small chip/flake on the lid as shown in photos.  I almost missed this until taking pictures.  There is little crazing.  I have discounted the price by $25 due to the small chip.

Marked: Royal Crownford Ironstone England

Over the many years of collecting I've been fortunate enough to acquire both a red and a brown one of these. I use one in the bathroom for cotton balls/q-tips and one on my desk for small office supplies.

ABOUNT JENNY LIND: Johanna Maria Lind better known as Jenny Lind, was a Swedish-born opera singer, often known as the "Swedish Nightingale". She is known for her performances in soprano roles in Sweden and Europe, as well as for an extraordinarily popular tour of America beginning in 1850 promoted by P T Bailey (Barnum & bailey), and for her philanthropic work. Her fame garnered many commemorative items of which many still are produced and named after her today.
