Rare, antique Teal Blue & Brown 2 color Transferware Plate

Circa 1890-1902

This antique French transferware plate features one of the most unique designs.    On the left is a ribbon trailing from distant trees and the right are flowering branches with an inset in brown of a pitcher containing flowers and a basket of cheese.  This plate is numbered 3 and  there were likely 6-12 in the series.


Terre de fer translated to “ironstone” in English are highly collectible antique forms of ceramic works, originating in France. They are most often found in the form of plates, often featuring botanicals, fruits and vegetables. Terre de fer produced more than 100 years ago are classified as antique and are naturally the most highly collectible.

Measures 8”

Condition: No chips or cracks. There is  typical, age related crazing present. 

Marked: Stamped with Cartels Deposè and initials CM  (Creil and Monterreau) impressed with a 3 leaf clover symbol , 4, and Terre De Fer
