Brand Grindley

ANTIQUE AESTHETIC MOVEMENT BLUE TRANSFER WARE CANDY BOWL
Staffordshire England
Circa October 1883

For consideration is this lovely, shallow bowl or candy dish by Grindley in a pattern entitled 'Ideal'. I love this name as that's just what the scenes on these pieces look like...an ideal place to be! The center, or face, of the platter depicts a calming mountain and lake scene framed by cattails. The border is a stunning, intricate combination of florals, fauna and geometrically stylized flowers.

Grindley was a Staffordshire potter specializing in earthenwares and ironstone china particularly for the American, Canadian, South American and Australian markets. The company was founded by William Harry Grindley at Newfield Pottery in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent in 1880.
