Antique English Butchers Scale Dairy / Meat Slab
Originally these English ironstone stands were used in markets and grocery stores as counter top displays for margarine, butter, lard, meats and cheese. Most were in use between the late 1800's and early 1900's. Though unmarked, this slab is attributable to Parnall & Sons as the original scale it came with was Parnall. Today, what remains of these pieces are highly sought and collected. This one is very hard to find in this shape and size. Features The Queen of Virtues with a garland overhead which, in Latin, reads, "Justitia Virtutum Regina".
What a great piece to use for serving cheeses or display. It would even be a nice piece to hang on the wall! I have a few in my collection and use one with vintage pitchers full of kitchen utensils, oil, salt pepper, etc.
