Staffordshire Black Transfer Ware Plate

George Jones and Sons

Black Willow

Circa 1891-1920

This gorgeous plate is Chinoiserie themed black willow with Oriental Pagodas, fishermen on the bridge and Willow trees surrounding the scene. The plate has a stunning embossed border of floral garlands, urns and scrollwork with Pagoda's and is highlighted with black painted accents around the edge. Absolutely wonderful detail! Some of the prettiest plates I've seen.

The company began operation in c.1864 at Stoke Upon Trent at the Trent Potteries Works as George Jones and in 1873 became George Jones & Sons Ltd. They produced gorgeous majolica and earthen wares.
In 1907 the works was renamed Crescent Potteries.
George Jones died in 1893.

Measures 8 1/2" square with cut corners giving it an octagon shape
Condition: There is a little typical crazing present. No chips or cracks. A few of the plates have minor clay bumps which is typical of pieces this age.
