Antique Staffordshire Plate 19th Century Red Transferware Plate Sicilian Gondola Lace & Floral Border
$49.99
Brand Wood & Sons
For consideration is this early red / pink Staffordshire plate unattributed to a particular maker (though it has been thought to be Minton) in the European Scenery series named Sicilian, produced between 1815-1835. Each piece in the series features a different Lake District scene particularly that of lush and ornately detailed gardens. This one overlooks the lake from the garden and a Gondola is seen on the waters. The plate is gently scalloped with a row of tiny circles around the rim. The border looks like swags of lace gathered with small rosettes holding it place and this surrounds a wreath of Morning Glories and Dahlias. It is simple and elaborate at the same time, an absolutely beautiful border.
Measures: 7 1/8"
Condition: There are no chips or cracks. There are some small pops in the glaze and minor surface scratching.
Marked as shown: within a floral and scrolled cartouche: Sicilian
