Antique Victorian Staffordshire Blue Green English Two Color Transferware Bird & Nest Fluted Compote Cake Stand Aesthetic Movement
Brand Dunn & Bennett
Antique, English Staffordshire footed, fluted cake stand plate with a darling bird and nest pattern. This piece is unusually beautiful with it's two color process. The first color is a greenish gray sheet pattern that delicately covers the entire top of the plate. Over this is the deep blue transfer scene depicting the nest and bird. There are subtle hand painted accents with gold around the lower branches upon which the nest rests.
This was possibly made by Dunn & Bennet who manufactured earthenware and ironstone at Hanley and Burslem from the late 1870's to the 1990's (though they had by then been taken over by Royal Doulton). This piece dates to about 1890-1900 and the pattern is called Florence. It is an unusual piece and in a very hard to find pattern.
Condition: No chips or cracks. There are small clay pops and some very minor brown spots around the rim..nothing at all significant.
