VERY RARE BLACK TRANSFER WARE COMPOTE

Cornflowers and Fruits

This beautifully detailed compote dates to the Aesthetic Movement (late 1800's) and was made by one of the greatest potteries in the world, Spode/Copeland. It is a black transfer with a lustre finish and handpainted shades of blue and gold. It's a perfect size for cookies and would also be a wonderful stand for a cloche to sit upon.

Measures: 8.5" diameter x appx 4.5" tall

Condition: Excellent, no chips or cracks. I found no crazing. There are faint surface scratches which can be seen when turned in light at an angle. The condition is beautiful!

Marked: impressed with the word Copeland and a B below. It is also hand numbered 2 over 2396 (which would be the pattern number) and a small mark, probably artist initials but I cannot make them out.
