This listing is for a hard to find, large, round sugar bowl or lidded jar in the very popular pattern entitled Jenny Lind depicting a group of people in an Alpine setting seen viewing the distant castle through a telescope.. It is made by Clarice Cliff / Royal Staffordshire of England.
The scene is hand painted with touches of blue, red/burgundy, green and yellow-gold.
Johanna Maria Lind better known as Jenny Lind, was a Swedish-born opera singer, often known as the "Swedish Nightingale". She is known for her performances in soprano roles in Sweden and Europe, as well as for an extraordinarily popular tour of America beginning in 1850 promoted by P T Bailey (Barnum & bailey), and for her philanthropic work. Her fame garnered many commemorative items of which many still are produced and named after her today.
I am listing lots of transferware and Staffordshire items. Please take a look as I am happy to combine shipments.
