Antique Spode Copeland Earthenware Oriental Birds Plate

Circa 1927 (impressed stamp of M over 27 = March 1927)

Hand numbered 2 over 8373 (2 indicates earthenware and the number indicates the year)

This lovely plate depicts a trio of Asian / Chinoiserie style birds; one in flight, one on the ground and one perched atop a branch full of Oriental flowers and foliage.  The pattern is one that probably was copied from an original Chinese export.  The plate has a stunning pointed border of ivy and the birds and florals have hand painted touches of blues, greens, browns, yellows and purple.  Unusually beautiful and difficult to find as many of the Peacock plates were made for specific retailers with subtle variations in each set so that if replacements were needed they buyer would have to go back to the original retailer to pruchase more.  The colors are vibrant!
