HUGE 17” Vintage English Shop Butchers Bull Shop Display Cow Hereford Figurine
Huge and very impressive vintage Melba Ware, butchers Hereford bull; made in Longton, Stoke on Trent during the 1950's - these massive bulls were used for display purposes in butcher's shops and are now increasingly rare and very collectable. I have one in my collection that I display in my kitchen. They are VERY hard to find! This is the largest size I've come across! This has the original foil label on its underside.
Condition: Has some usual age related glaze crazing
measurements: appx 17” long x 9.75” Tall
Several Staffordshire companies manufactured goods under the name 'Melba' but 'Melba Ware' was the name of a range produced by H. A. Wain & Sons Ltd, who were well known for their ceramic animals. They began production in 1946 and ceased in the mid-1980s.
