Brand Samuel Alcock & Co.

The Miniver Rose

VINTAGE ENGLISH Light Blue-ish Periwinkle and Roses Plate

by Samuel Alcock, circa 1822

This pattern is hard to find.  Though unsigned, the "Melting Snow" moulded border is unique to Samuel Alcock c. 1830.  Alcock owned potteries at Burslem and Cobridge and existed from 1828-59.  His pottery firms were very well-respected and prolific (see: Geoffrey Godden, Godden's Guide to English Porcelain, 1992, Wallace Homestead Book Co., pgs. 153-4).
An outer band of raised plumes which have a look of melting, falling snow surround painted pink and white cabbage roses piled atop leaves with small trailing flowers in lavender and blue below. The plate is gilded at the rim and is Absolutely GORGEOUS!

Measures 8.5”

Condition is good, there are no chips or cracks. There is some crazing and gilding loss.
