Huge and very impressive vintage Melba Ware, butchers Hereford bull; made in Longton, Stoke on Trent during the 1950's - these massive bulls were used for display purposes in butcher's shops and are now increasingly rare and very collectable. I have one in my collection that's a little darker in color. They are VERY hard to find! This is the largest size I've come across!
Condition: Has some usual age related glaze crazing and one tiny, pin sized white dot or clay / paint flake on it’s back...otherwise in excellent condition with no damage. I’ve included a photo with the dot circled in yellow and with a K-Cup coffee pod to give a better idea of how small it is.
measurements: appx 16.5” long x 9.5” Tall
Several Staffordshire companies manufactured goods under the name 'Melba' but 'Melba Ware' was the name of a range produced by H. A. Wain & Sons Ltd, who were well known for their ceramic animals. They began production in 1946 and ceased in the mid-1980s.
