Brown Transferware Soup or Punch Ladle

Jenny Lind

Royal Staffordshire - Charles Meigh & Sons

Very Rare & Very Difficult to find!

For consideration I am offering this stunning brown transferware ladle for soup or punch in the pattern 'Jenny Lind' by Charles Meigh & Sons / Royal Staffordshire of Burslem England. This is one of the most beautiful scenic patterns ever produced on transferware. The scene depicts a group of people in an Alpine setting all dressed in period clothing seen viewing the distant castle through a telescope.

The brown transfer has been hand painted with highlights in red, green, blue and gold/taupe.

Truly a wonderful and rare find for your collection!

Matching Soup Tureen will also be listed for sale individually

C M & S is Charles Meigh and Son. In 1835 Charles Meigh became the successor to his father Job Meigh, also a prominent Staffordshire potter. He manufactured earthenware at the Old Hall Pottery in Hanley and traded under the name or initials Charles Meigh & Son or C M & S from 1851-1861. This pattern was also produced later by Royal Staffordshire / A J Wilkinson up until the 1940's.

Measures 9 1/2" Bowl of Ladle is appx 3 3/4" across x 1 1/4" deep

Condition: There is a little crazing and a small manufacturing flaw on the outside rim that was glazed over. Not really significant but wanted to point this out.

Johanna Maria Lind better known as Jenny Lind, was a Swedish-born opera singer, often known as the "Swedish Nightingale". She is known for her performances in soprano roles in Sweden and Europe, as well as for an extraordinarily popular tour of America beginning in 1850 promoted by P T Bailey (Barnum & bailey), and for her philanthropic work. Her fame garnered many commemorative items of which many still are produced and named after her today.

I am listing lots of transferware and Staffordshire items. Please take a look as I am happy to combine shipments.
