For consideration is this lovely platter by Enoch & Ralph Woods in a gorgeous purple transfer. The scene depicts the Thomas viaduct on Baltimore and Washington Railroad. The scene is from a steel engraving done in 1838 by H. Adlard, a prolific engraver in London at the time. The platter is part of the Old Baltimore Views by Enoch Woods.

At its completion, the Thomas Viaduct was the largest railroad bridge in the United States and the country's first multi-span masonry railroad bridge to be built on a curve. It is the worlds oldest arched stone bridge and now is part of the US National Registry of Historic Places.

Marked: Enoch Woods England Wood & Son Burslem makers mark on the back and the retailer Hochschild Kohn & Co. Baltimore.

The scene is surrounded with a Peony floral border which is also used in Woods iconic English Scenery series.
