WEDGWOOD PURPLE TRANSFERWARE George Washington Inauguration Historical

Wedgwood Etruria England Commemaritive Plate

Scenic Purple / Plum / Mulberry Transferware

For consideration I am offering this very rare plate commemorating the inauguration of George Washington on April 30, 1789 at Federal Hall and the opening of the New York Worlds Fair in 1939. What is so unusual is that the plate has a misprint on the back regarding the spelling of Washington's f was used instead of an s as seen in the pictures to the side. The plate depicts Castle Garden with an American flag flying high above. The border is a beautiful blend of various flowers and ivy.

It is marked on the back : Castle Garden 1825 OLD NEW YORK commemorating the inauguration of George Wafhington at Federal Hall New York April 30, 1789 and the New York Worlds Fair 1939. Wedgwood Etruria, England

Incised with the following: Wedgwood 9S476 (I believe this is the correct numeral/letter combination, but it is difficult to make out)

Condition is good, no chips, cracks or repairs...there is crazing commensurate with age.

Measures: 10.25"
