VINTAGE PURPLE TRANSFER WARE PLATTER
Ightham Mote ~ Meakin
For consideration is this stunning platter by J & G Meakin of England in the highly sought and collectible pattern entitled Romantic England. This piece depicts the medieval 14th Century lacustrine or moated manor named Ightham Mote (pronounced item mote) at Kent. It is from here that Richard III's Lieutenant of the Tower rode in 1485 to the Battle of Bosworth. Outside the Tudor styled manor swans waded near the waters edge on one side and a man pushes away from the shoreline in a small wooden boat on the other side. The border is a lovely blend of delicate flowers mixed with blueberries and ivy. The overall shape is scalloped. It is hard to find this pattern in purple.
