This lovely plate depots a transfer from an engraving dating to about 1835 of the city of Basel, Switzerland, with the Rhine River and a bridge in the foreground.
The composition shows figures along the riverbank, which adds a sense of daily life to the image. The engraving was likely created during a period when Basel was undergoing significant developments in trade and urban planning.
The scalloped rim and embossing defines a stylized leaf and swag motif.
