RARE 19th Century Spode Copeland Blue English Transferware Gilded Plate Grasshopper

$69.99

Brand Copeland Spode

For consideration I am offering this rare, difficult to find plate in the Grasshopper pattern by Spode, W. T. Copeland, Stoke Upon Trent.

The design epitomizes the Aesthetic Movement with the Asian inspired vignette of insects, flowers and Oriental fences. The plate is scalloped with a gilt gold edge.

Circa 1882

Condition is near mint with little wear to the gold band around the edge. There are no chips or cracks and no crazing that I can see.

Marked on back; W. T. COPELAND & SONS STOKE UPON TRENT

Impressed on back: Copeland (arched) over B and Z L 82 and a diamond registration mark which I am not able to make out.

Measures: 7.5"

Condition: No cracks or chips. Some minor scuffing surface scratches can be seen when turned at an angle in light. There is one small nick on the rim of two of the plates (sold individually)...nothing significant and very normal for pottery of this age. Varying degrees of gold wear around the rim, as shown in photo.

Impressed Copeland crown on back
