Conditon:Here’s an elegant antique Copeland Spode plate featuring a rare two-color transferware design. It features a scalloped Gadroon rim and a border that is richly decorated with intricate green scrolling acanthus leaves, delicate floral garlands, and lattice-like chains, creating a lacy, almost architectural frame. The crisp green transfer contrasts beautifully against the creamy earthenware. At the center, a finely rendered brown (sepia-toned) transfer depicts a romanticized landscape from their Continental Views series. It depicts a hilltop town or castle complex with towers, clustered buildings, and surrounding trees, overlooking water and distant mountains. The scene has a soft atmosphere evoking an idealized European setting; hence its name Continental Views.
A rare find in a two color transferware design, especially the green and brown.
It would be beautiful as a stand alone piece or mixed with other greens and browns in a platewall.
Measures: just over 10”
Conditon: Excellent for age. No chips or cracks and little crazing.
