JUMBO ‘JOKE’ Cup and Saucer
Joke cups are very hard to come by as they are so overszied. I am not sure when the term joke came into being for them but for decades these large pieces have been referred to as such. They are very collectible in and of themselves. I have two or three in my personal collection which I use for small plants like ivy, etc. They are lovely just to display or for a nice bowl of soup!
Absolutely stunning example of the Camilla Series by Spode.
The Camilla pattern was first introduced by Spode in 1833. It was first transfer printed in blue underglaze and later was offered in red, green and brown, of which the latter two are the rarest to find in this pattern.
The pattern name/depiction is thought to be derived from the Tea plant Camellia Sinensis
Condition: No chips, no cracks, only a bit of crazing, a couple of glaze pops
measures: Saucer is 8.5”, cup is Appx 7 1/8” handle to opposite rim. About 3.5” high
