RARE Antique Victorian Staffordshire Blue English Transferware Bird & Nest Basket Box Aesthetic Movement

$349.99

Brand Dunn & Bennett

This is one of the most unique and prettiest pieces I’ve seen.  It is a unique shape looking like a woven basket weave box and lid with a darling bird and nest pattern.  I have only seen a piece this shape or size twice now.  I’m not sure what it would originally have been used for but I can think of many uses for it today even if it’s just used as a display item. There are subtle hand painted accents with gold around the lower branches upon which the nest rests.

This was probably made by Dunn & Bennet who manufactured earthenware and ironstone at Hanley and Burslem from the late 1870's to the 1990's (though they had by then been taken over by Royal Doulton). This piece dates to about 1890-1900 and the pattern is called Florence. It is an unusual piece and in a very hard to find pattern.

It is decorated in all sides including the top.
