A rare find, this childs nursery rhyme plate features a transfer printed in dark rich chocolate brown with great color polychrome hand painting, clobbering in shades of green, golden yellow, and cobalt blue. The plate has the blue ponding of a pearlware glaze and with the entire alphabet in capital letters.
Childrens nursery rhyme plates were given as gifts to children as rewards for good behaviour. They were also used to encourage morality and as educational aids throughout the early to mid 19th century.
Measures: just under 7 1/2"
Condition: no chips or cracks with exception of a small manufacturing chip on the back that is glazed over. Nice condition!
