Circa 1892-1920 Antique 7 piece Game Bird Plate & Platter Set

Here is a really beautifully hand painted Limoges set.  Each piece depicts a different pair of game birds in rich, vibrant blue shades.   Soft coral, pinks and cream flowers are randomly painted around the plates and platter.   You can see the layers of paint, especially when turned to the light at an angle.  Gold encrusting embellishes this set further.  It is truly a beautiful set painted by a skilled artist.

Marked:  The set is marked L S & S Limoges France. LS &S stands for Lazarus Strauss & Sons of New York, founded in 1869. The company imported chinaware from various countries in Europe, including Britain, France, Germany and Czechoslovakia. In 1874, his son Nathan, got RH Macy to permit them to have a glass and chinaware department in their store, making LS & S wares the first china and glassware to be sold by Macy’s.  While LS & S imported china, they also operated factories in the leading china making centers in the above countries.

Condition:  The large platter has one rim flake which I have shown an up close of.  It is not very noticeable unless you’re looking for it.  I doubt it would even be noticed if displayed, whether on a wall or in a China cabinet.   No other chips that I could find.  There is a little gold loss to the rims but not much.  I don’t see any significant scratches.  My guess is this was used for decoration only.

Measures:  Platter is 18” Plates are 9”
