This lovely plate shows a 19c engraving of the city of Lucerne, Switzerland on the Reuss River, where it flows out of Lake Lucerne. Standing proud in the distance is Mount Rigi in the background. The mountain is known as the "Queen of the Mountains" and is a popular tourist destination.
The scalloped rim and embossing defines a stylized leaf and swag motif.
