Francis Wheatley
Black English Transferware Embossed Border Plate
Adams potteries produced a series of plates from engravings of paintings done by artist Francis Wheatley, born in Covent Garden in the mid 1700's. This is the series for which the artist is most remembered, painting London's street vendors selling their goods. In this case it was "Hot Spiced Gingerbread, Smoking Hot" depicting a family and dog gathered round their cart full of bread.
It is a beautiful black transfer with hand painted touches of red, blue yellow and green on the scene. Elaborate, embossed acanthus leaf border
