Royal Cauldon The Hunt Circa 1930’s

These six plates by Royal Cauldon feature intricate hunting scenes in delicate black and white transferware, showcasing a vivid and historical portrayal of hunting traditions. The plates are part of the "Hunt Scene" series, known for their detailed depictions of the English countryside and the sport of hunting. Each plate features a different scene from the hunt, typically with hounds, hunters on horseback, and various landscapes such as rivers, fences, and fields.  They feature Gadroon embossed rims which are gently scalloped.

Each plate tells a different part of the hunt's story — the anticipation of the chase, the camaraderie of the riders, and the triumph of the hunt's conclusion.

The Scenes:

  1. Top Left Plate: Depicts a lone rider, possibly the hunt master, riding through a sweeping field with a pack of hounds trailing behind. This scene captures the solitary, yet authoritative nature of hunting leadership.

  2. Top Center Plate: Shows a group of riders gathering around a fallen animal in the woods, likely a hare or fox, with their hounds resting nearby. This plate conveys a sense of the hunt reaching its conclusion, with the riders uniting after a successful pursuit.

  3. Top Right Plate: Features an action-packed moment with a rider jumping over a fence, with hounds in full pursuit of their quarry. The dramatic motion and urgency are expertly captured in this piece.

  4. Bottom Left Plate: Depicts a scene of hunters talking and resting with their hounds, showcasing a more tranquil, reflective moment during the hunt.

  5. Bottom Center Plate: A dramatic scene of a group of hunters and dogs moving through a rugged landscape. The setting is more remote, surrounded by rolling hills and sparse trees, which emphasizes the wildness of the environment.

  6. Bottom Right Plate: Shows two riders, one of them seemingly setting off towards the horizon, with a group of hounds following close behind. The plate’s composition highlights both the bond between horse and rider and the vast expanse of the hunt’s setting.
