Don't miss this chance to add this exquisite piece of toleware to your collection!

Here is a very rare piece of Mustard Painted Toleware: a mid-19th century Cheese Cradle.

This is a typical curved Sleigh shape with scroll ends.

Cheese cradles were designed with their distinctive curved shape in order to take a whole circular Stilton cheese on its side, so that wedge-shaped pieces could be cut from it.  They were used in general stores and large estates.  Today, of course you can still serve that giant hunk ornament cheese with these but they make beautiful guest towel holders or wash cloth holders.  You could use it as a fruit bowl.  A floral arrangement could be made in foam cut to shape the curve of the cradle.  That would be gorgeous!  What would you use it for?

This style was popular from the late 18th C through the 1860’s

The cradle is appx 13-1/4" long, 4” high, and 6-3/4" wide.

condition is very good with no major scratches and no dings.

The cradle is painted a deep, golden mustard color with green and red leaves and flowers on either side and at either end.    The knobbed scrolls are painted black.
