BROWN TRANSFER WARE RECTANGLE SHAPED PLATTER / TRAY
Royal Staffordshire Rural Scenes by A. J. Wilkinson Ltd. of Great Britain Regd. No. 784849 Circa 1933-34
For consideration is this scenic platter/tray in one of the most beautiful pastoral patterns found on transferware. It depicts two men in a wooded area chopping down trees. A mother and her children sit atop a huge log already fallen. A small boy has one leg up over the log as he tried climb atop. To the right, a woman balance upon her head a bundle of small twigs tied together. To the left is a small dog sniffing from a ewer and basket. In the background a horse drawn cart is preparing to pull an alrelady loaded log from the forest. The border in this pattern is one of may favorites, combining a unique blend of lattice and ivy framing insets of farm implements...rake-hoe-shovel and a beeskeep. Each piece in this series has a different design so check my other listings as I've got more in this pattern.
Known both as Rural Scenes by Royal Staffordshire Dinnerware by Clarice Cliff and Pastoral Davenport by A J Wilkinson
Condition: No chips or cracks with exception to a small chip on the back which doesn’t show from the front / top. Ther is some crazing present, commensurate with age
Measures: 10.5" x 8.25"
The plate is marked and stamped on the back as follows: Rural Scenes Royal Staffordshire Pottery England A. J. Wilkinson Ltd The Biarritz Royal Staffordshire great Britain Regd. No 784849
