RED TRANSFER WARE SQUARE SALAD PLATE
George Washington at Trenton
Circa 1932

For consideration is this highly collectible, square shaped plate depicting George Washington at Trenton where, at approximately 8 a.m. on the morning of December 26, 1776, the General's Continental Army reaches the outskirts and descended upon the unsuspecting Hessian force guarding the city.  The victories at Trenton and a few days later at Princeton proved to the American public that their army was indeed capable of victory and worthy of support.

Each of the four corners of the plate are indented and feature a pair of roses with cartouches around the border.

This series of plates was produced in 1932 by Crown Ducal to commemorate the bicentenary of Washington! English potters were keen to supply the American markets with historical images of our victories, even when against the English themselves! The border is surrounded by lush roses and cartouches filled with the same.
