Antique Early Staffordshire Circa 1850-60 Purple Brown Two Color Transferware Plate Working Farm Windmill Trellis Eon
Rare 2 Color Transferware Purple and Brown
This handsome pattern by George Wooliscroft (1851-1864 Tunstall, Staffordshire), is found on a 12 sided plate. The brown center is complemented with a purple border. This plate shows one of a series of romantic scenes which always include windmills in rural landscapes. The border features six cartouches alternating between windmills and people with horses. Each cartouche is separated by a pretty trellis covered in trailing vines.
I have one in my collection, which hangs in our Master Bath. It's a beautiful piece!
Measures: Appx 9 5/8"
Condition: No chips, cracks although the footrim on the bottom does have a chip. This doesn't detract from the piece as it is neither visible from top / front nor does it impact the way it sits. There is some crazing, and a few surface scratches
Marked: as shown
