English Victorian Aesthetic Movement Staffordshire Transfer Ware Punch Bowl / Tureen
Circa 1890

This fantastic find comes from Staffordshire England.  It is a footed punch bowl which can easily double as a huge container for a plant or flowers, numerous fruits, vegetables, etc.  It easily accommodates up to 5-6 bottles of wine.  I have it on my buffet right now with a huge candle that has 5 wicks.  It looks stunning!   The piece dates to the Aesthetic Movement (link below)  and features clusters of grapes on a vine wound around a branch.  There are urns of  roses centred between golden swags. It is a brown transfer with hand painted color and a stunning lustre finish that catches the light. Decorated inside and out.  It is an absolutely impressive and beautiful piece!

Marks:  Impressed FURNIVAL and P on the bottom and is also hand numbered. This can be dated to 1890-95 based on the Furnival mark.

This English pottery was established in 1851 as T. Furnival & Sons in two manufacturing facilities in Cobridge.  Furnival was among the higher ranked high manufacturers of white granite and vitrified ironstone as well as decorated dinner services and toilet wares. They produced not only for the European markets but exported in large demand to markets of the United States, Canada, and other Continental markets. For the home trade, they produced 'patent ironstone' dinner and other services in various styles of decoration. Among their specialities was the clever combination of transfer-printing, hand-painting, enamelling, and gilding, which characterise this wonderful punch bowl.

A fun way to uniquely offer beverages to your guests!

Measures: 14.5" wide, 7.25" tall

Condition:  No chips or cracks, lots of crazing commensurate to age is present.  Some wear to the lustre and rim with some browning as can be seen in pictures.
