Spode Byron Dual Handled Pastoral Brown Transferware Lidded Tureen Covered Casserole

$199.99

Brand Copeland Spode

EARLY SPODE COPELAND SCENIC LIDDED TUREEN / COVERED CASSEROLE

RARE, circa 1937-50 Pattern first introduced in 1851

This particular piece has a brown transferware border of lattice entertwined with lush ivy and bundles of grapes. The lid depicts two young women engaged in serious conversation while sitting at the step of a rock cottage. The tureen itself shows a woman from the back carring a billy goat with one and a dog walking alongside her back to the farm house. The scene is absolutely beautiful! The base has two scrolled handles at either side and the lid has a knobbed top.

The detail in the transfer is exquisite and has been painstakingly handpainted in places with hues of brown/gold, green, blue, taupe, pink and yellows. Absolutely one of the most beautiful pastoral scenes ever applied to transferware.

Condition is near mint for its age, no chips, cracks or repairs. Only some minor paint loss to the paints green edge and some typical, yet minor, crazing attesting to its age.

Measures: 10 " handle to handle x 6" tall with lid in place & 3.25" tall without lid Condition is good with exception to one hariline crack in the  the bowl (as shown in photo) There is fine, age appropriate crazing throughout and minor staining in the bowl...no other chips or damage.
